February 26, 2024 – Our Clinical Director, Dr. Franco Molteni, was one of the speakers at the presentation of Twin, the new exoskeleton
Built by Rehab Technologies IIT – INAIL, a joint lab between Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and Centro Protesi INAIL, Istituto Nazionale Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro in Budrio.
- The clinical trials of this new exoskeleton has been conducted at Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Innovation Institute, along with Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute in Imola. The presentation has been held at the marvelous Sala Cenacolo of Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia in Milan.
- Equipped with inflatable cushions and variable density bands for perfect wearability, Twin can be assembled and disassembled without any external tools. It takes 3 and a half minutes to be worn and one minute and a half to be unworn. Twin works with three different modalities: Walk (for people with no motor function), ReTrain (for people with a partially compromised motor function), and TwinCare (for patients with only one leg’s motor function compromised).
- “When we work to regain gait, we don’t just give back the patient the ability to move,” Dr. Franco Molteni said. “We improve fatigue, pain, gut function, and immune response. We change the perception that a person has of their own body and self in the world. We affect the vegetative system that regulates the regulation of arterial pressure and alter the biology of the person. Once again, it is not only a matter of mechanics and engineering. There is always something that we can’t touch: it’s the human component”.
